I'VE DESEEDED I CAN'T TAKE THE HEAT

The second of four shows in about seven weeks which Lesson No.1 has attached its tainted name to, after saying in June that no more would be forthcoming (try emailing me via this blog - it still says that), this one sees the return of one of our 'flagship' 'artists' under his new name. You got it toots, it's DJ SCOTCH EGG! Except he is now called DJ SCOTCH BONNET, so you should probably click that link instead. The other one was a Myspace page which hasn't been logged into since February. Telling. (I wonder how the scores of Myspace links viewable to the right of this post are looking nowadays? A testament to capitalism's folly in the toddler years of social media, or just a bit shit and clonky?)

Scotch Bonnet, aka Shige which is his real name, has now decided to take inspiration from extra hot chillies instead of breadcrumb-covered snacks... but you can still expect all kinds of crunchy electronic devastation at wax-loosening volume. Based on the stuff that’s out there under the new name (not much), there might be a bit of a Techno Animal/Dälek/chopped and screwed thing going on, suits me fine.

This is sort-of part of a tour showcasing their label, Small But Hard Records ("like a Japanese cock" - I believe this is a quote from Shige himself), and as such also features KOYXEN. “Kouhei Matsunaga grew up in Osaka, Japan. He was listening to hardcore techno and rap music and also studied architecture. He lives in Osaka or Berlin,” says a bio I found. He has been in the game since 1998 and has released buttloads of intense and complex music, ranging from IDM to glitch to noise to techno, on labels including MILLE PLATEAUX, TIGERBEAT6, IMPORTANT and, most recently, PAN. This will sound pretty incredible being delivered LOUD, I reckon! Read a lil’ interview with him and download a mix of his own stuff here.

Finally, and more locally, is a super talented dude who will be playing as a trio: R. SEILIOG. Not gonna call this an EP release show cos that’s not my prerogative [via Bobby Brown], but the debut R. Seiliog EP is out on Mon 29 Oct, on the PESKI label, so this is at least a timely live performance. R. Seiliog is the project of a dude called Robin, who also plays in H. HAWKLINE and CATE LE BON’s bands – but swaps the countryside psych and folk elements for dense clusters of processed guitar and electronics. I’m looking forward to seeing it AND SO ARE YOU!

This is the first Lesson No.1 show in Clwb Ifor Bach for just over two years, and that was a Swn show so kinda doesn't count. Clwb Ifor rules, though, and has a refurbed new foyer that probably smells of all French polish and lemon Pledge and whatever. You will leave it thoroughly pleased you attended on the first day of November.
